Bill To Legalize Real Money Poker Online Gets Delayed.

It is more bad news for Real Money Poker players because Capital Hill is going to delay voting. Barney Franks introduced 2 bills to help legalize and regulate online real money poker, and to repeal the UIGEA legislation passed in 2006. House members will not vote on the bills until at least September and possibly later.

The reasons trickling in have centered on the present financial crisis, and Frank, as the head of the House Financial Services Committee, needing to focus his attention on larger matters. However, it is no secret that UIGEA has several key backers who would hate the passage of Franks legislation. The National Football League is one such group, publicly stating its disdain for legalized online gambling of any sort including poker and vowing to fight any such legislation tooth and nail. About 35 co-sponsors, the bill seemed to be gaining momentum: Especially after the very unpopular decision by the US Attorneys Office in New York to seize about $34 million poker players money. Real Money Poker players can only hope that the current passion will not die down from the passage of time.

Still upcoming is Interactive Media Entertainment & Gaming Association court battle with the US Government. Arguments are set to begin on July 7, in Philadelphia where iMEGA is seeking to have the UIGEA legislation ruled unconstitutional on several different grounds; most notably vagueness.
